ACI Concrete Design with ideCAD

The following Design requirements of concrete structures on ACI 318-19 based automatically checked in ideCAD Structural

Several design requirements are established in ACI 318-19 (Building Code Requirements for Concrete Design) that concrete structures must meet.

ACI Beam Design

Design properties for concrete and reinforcement can be selected for the following Concrete Reinforcement Materials. In addition, design properties such as modulus of elasticity for concrete Ec, modulus of elasticity for reinforcement Es, specified compressive strength fc', and specified yield strength for reinforcement fy available in Concrete Reinforcement Materials title.

ACI Column Design

The design of reinforced concrete columns in ideCAD Structural provides adequate compression reinforcement and member size to guarantee the stability of the structure. In ideCAD, columns are rectangular, square, circular, or polygonal.

General

ACI Beam-Column Joint Design

The joint design should consider the shear resulting from the moment created by gravity load, wind, earthquake, or other lateral forces at beam-column joints.

According to ACI 15.2.6, if a column extension provides continuity through a beam-column joint in the direction of joint shear, it considered shall satisfy the following two conditions:

  • The column extends above the joint at least one column depth, h, measured in the direction of the joint shear considered.
  • Longitudinal and transverse reinforcement from the column below the joint is continued through the extension.

According to ACI 15.2.7, if a beam extension provides continuity through a beam-column joint in the direction of joint shear, it considered shall satisfy the following two conditions:

  • The beam extends at least one beam depth h beyond the joint face.
  • Longitudinal and transverse reinforcement from the beam on the opposite side of the joint is continued through the extension.

According to ACI 15.2.8, for a beam-column joint to be considered confined for the direction of joint shear, two transverse beams should be satisfied the following three conditions:

  • The width of each transverse beam is at least three-quarters of the width of the column face into which the beam frames
  • Transverse beams extend at least one beam depth h beyond the joint faces
  • Transverse beams contain at least two continuous top and bottom bars satisfying ACI 9.6.1.2 and No. 3 or larger stirrups satisfying ACI 9.6.3.4 and 9.7.6.2.2.
